The Boy Scouts of America and Lady Liberty

In 1950, Boy Scouts of America created a joint effort to fund and erect these statues in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Boy Scouts, and their theme to "Strenthen the Arm of Liberty." Individual units raised money and were responsible for placing over 200 throughout the United States and Guam.

It was a pleasant surprise to find one in our county, Ironton, and even more appropriate for us to know this story as 2010 is the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts. The freedom of liberty seems even more precious.

I've never seen one, except the one's I've seen Schenewark's standing nearby. We'll have to make it part of our next visit to really see one in person.

School taday? I hear 6" of snow for you while driving to work, many school's cancelled in western PA. I can just see 6 very happy boys making bigger, taller snowmen.
