HOPKINS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - On November 12 at approximately 2:45 p.m, the Hopkins County, Sulphur Bluff, North Hopkins, Dike, Saltillo, Brinker, Arbala, Franklin County and Mount Vernon Fire Departments responded to a fatality fire.

From the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office:

The fire occurred on #95 County Road 3608 in Sulphur Bluff. The fire had quickly consumed the two story residence, leaving a large amount of heavy debris. After an extensive search, Search One Rescue Team, an organization with specifically trained canine handlers dedicated to search and rescue, were notified and arrived on scene. Today, November 13, at approximately 1:50 p.m, the Search and Rescue Team were able to locate the victim inside the debris and the family was notified.

The victim was identified as Rick Alberts, a retired Dallas Fireman. The cause of the fire is unknown and still under investigation. The family is staying at a local hotel in Sulphur Springs and funeral arrangements are pending. Our prayers are with the family.

This week the team was called out six times.

One was for a mental patient walk away from a state hospital.

One was on a two year old boy that disappeared from home.

It was a rough week as these two died - 

one before the dogs arrived at the three hour mark -

one that returned to the area the dogs had cleared.

One was on armed robbery suspects that crashed after being chased, and hid in dense forest.

One bad guy caught, and his side kick spilling everything.

Real calls that make the skill of the dogs remind me how valuable Wagner could be

Today I learned about the Bois D'Arc tree - grows softball green hedge apples
that the squirrels love to open for their seeds.

The wood is valued for its flexibility in making a long bow.

Team Forest finished with human remain detection, and digging back up the sample.

I spent the day mapping. Learning how to describe where I am in the middle of a dark, dank forest -
Without using all the amazing hiking APPS

Of interest to me was learning that one team member

is a veterinarian technician. The dogs will always be in good hands.

As well as the team member that worked at the medical examiner's office.

Questions about types of bones located in a search, and whether or not they're human is his specialty.

Today I learned how the sun causes the scent to rise, the wind causes the scent to move, and both together cause it to settle in trees and bushes, away from the original site.

Searching on hard surfaces is a lot harder than searching on organic material.

I've finished with my three visits, and am officially in training
