There's a little Memorial Garden to submarines in Portsmouth, NH that are "
still on duty," since World War II. Fifty-two, to be exact. It's a little unknown fact you never think about until you visit places like this. (The Germans lost hundreds of submarines.)

The USS Albacore was a pioneering research vessel that they modeled other submarines after. I don't think I could do submarines, a little claustrophobic, so I have even more respect for men that could and can stand to be underwater for our safety.

I feel the same way about submarines... deep respect, healthy fear. Love your new blog title.
:)
Submarines freak me out. UGH. Tight spaces. Under water. My two least favorite things.
Mr. Brown Sign (i keep wanting to say Mr. BS) is really keeping this trip interesting for you guys.
What fun places you are all visiting! Thanks for sharing. Miss you guys!
When the USS Albany, which is now a submarine, was in Norfolk in 2003 for maintenance, we went aboard. It was quite an experience to enter the sub, climbing down the ladder to the interior. Anything that was confidential was covered. Years ago, I was on the Ibis which was at Quonset Point in Rhode Island. It's an experience, that's for sure. Glad the boys had fun and that Mr. Brown Sign is giving you all history lessons.
ugh...submarines. deathly afraid of those. it's a good place to visit - happy to say we've been there. you forgot to mention how COLD it was. i was laughing at poor Sawyer trying to cover up as much as he could in his shorts and shirt/sandels.
"Boys In The Good", I like that one. I still ask Sis. B. what's going on with the "Bloggerbunnies"
766 is the estimate of the number of U-Boats lost during the war. Sis. B's Omi dated a U-Boat Commander many years after the War.
