Recently I attended a funeral for Frank Mueller, a policeman that served a majority of his 30 years on the force with my father.

I remember him most as a kind of force, a physical presence that helped me have respect for those who choose to serve their community. This can be hard when it's your father who is in charge.

The support of the community was visible. Not just the firemen, or paramedics, or policemen from all over the community, region, state, and New Jersey.

But the moment I remember best, and love Frank for happened during my own father's retirement.

As my father passed through the file and ranks of those officers whom he had associated with for some twenty years, it was Frank Mueller that made my father cry.

SO sad.
Nice tribute, Amy.
I love Karen and her girls, too.
I think I remember Karen and her girls...they lived by Eva, didn't they?
What happened to him, he was young?!
I remember "Mad Dog" Mueller also, he was always a good guy to us on the Fire Department, he was always helpful on the scene of accidents when help was needed. I also remember working with him as a police explorer a couple of times.
I too would like to know why he left us so young.
Oh my gosh, I am so saddened to hear he's gone. I was so shocked when I read this, what happened? I loved their family, they were such awesome people. They will definitely be in my prayers.
Hi Amy - Thanks so much for this nice tribute. It made me cry and the comments made me cry too. You've managed to pull me out of my "lurker" status. No one can be adequately prepared for the loss of a spouse and Frankie and Veronica are extra young to lose a Dad. We miss him so much. For those who were wondering, Frank died from complications during routine surgery to replace his defibrillator. Although he had been struggling with heart arrhythmia issues, this was totally unexpected, he was a very young 62.
Oh, I am so very sorry for Karen and the girls. My heart goes out to them. Please sent her our love and tell her that she and her family are in our prayers. I'll have to let Uncle David know. We did not know this had happened. Aunt Shirley
What a beautiful tribute Amy!
