An Angel in Our Midst

"I have spoken here of heavenly help, of angels dispatched to bless us in time of need. But when we speak of those who are instruments in the hand of God, we are reminded that not all angels are from the other side of the veil. Some of them we walk with and talk with—here, now, every day. Some of them reside in our own neighborhoods...Indeed heaven never seems closer than when we see the love of God manifested in the kindness and devotion of people so good and so pure that angelic is the only word that comes to mind." Jeffrey Holland

I found out my grandmother passed away last night. It's not such a bad thing when the quality of life has diminished so far. But today I pay tribute to the angel in our family who has sacrificed so much to improve her quality of life. ShirlGirl. I know she won't be thrilled with the picture, but that's all I've got at the moment. How we love Aunt Shirley, and know she is of pure angel material. Thank you for your service to Nana. I know the more I serve someone the more my heart becomes tender towards them. I'm sure this week won't be an easy one. I love you!

Amy-

I love the new picture (and the Halloween idea I think it represents). I just want to know, what dwarf was Jared? Doc? Who was Grumpy? Let me see the whole crew!

I believe there is a special place in heaven for those that dedicate themselves to the service of others. Nana is a sad loss and Shirley is a bright star still here on earth.

Perfect tribute, Amy, thanks for pointing out that she was THE major part of Nana's comfort during her last six years or so!

Thank you, Amy Jo. You've made me cry, now. And thank you, Tom and Jenny for your kind words. Life will be different now that Nana has gone--I won't be making my frequent trips to the home to see her, pick up laundry, etc. Before things got really tough for her, she used to say to me, "I don't know what I would do without you." I'm happy that I could make her last 5 1/2 years in the nursing home a fairly happy one. She was a great bingo player, and we used to play bingo on Sunday afternoons. I'd also give her a manicure when she needed it. She was a feisty lady, and I am sure that is what kept her going all these years. She was blessed to have such loving grandchildren as well. Everyone at Harrington House loved her and will miss her. Love, Aunt Shirley
