Dear Boys,
There's been a virtual white-out here in Texas. Every activity - basketball practice, soccer scrimmage, baseball try-out, basketball game, soccer practice, boy scouts, track practice, and two and a half days of school has been cancelled this week because of the snowy, icy conditions. Even our trash pick-up. Not done. Dad even thinks the mail wasn't being delivered.
Compared to New England, we have nothing to complain about. We're not on the second story roof clearing snow and ice dams like Uncle Aaron.
Hunter, that your 10-0 record from team competition last week got you chosen to represent BYU at the chess tournament is wonderful. That you were one of three players that allowed BYU to come home with a first place trophy is amazing! Although, I'm not sure of the purpose of playing blind chess. Still wanting to see the not-so-good pictures!
I did find the website...http://www.chess.com/groups/view/byu-chess-team...is this current?
Tanner, happy to see your freshmen roommate invited you to a spontaneous dinner with his stuck-in-the-airport father. That he thought of you, with his cousin, says a lot. He's a good friend. And anyone that feeds my boy is my friend as well ;-)
Porter's still growing, as is Cooper, although Cooper's winning in the 'stache competition. Sawyer's down for the count, probably with a case of strep, we'll find out later. Miller still won't sit still. Breyer, still maybe, sometimes, and nobody can watch, sucking her thumb right before she falls asleep. Dad still likes bed time the best, and I'm still in the kitchen.
Although I did find this interesting article:
In a study of 125 Canadian couples, researchers found that married couples, including those who had lived together before marriage, exhibited better mental focus than couples who were living together and not married, even controlling for age, relationship length, and income. The study could not explain, though, whether this difference was caused by marriage or was instead the result of people with better mental focus being more likely to get married. (Bouchard, G. & Saint-Aubin, J., “Executive Control of Married and Cohabiting Couples,” Personality and Individual Differences (May 2015) My vote is on marriage. It's the only way to go.
We love you two, be good this week, refocus on school, and remember who you are!
Love, Mom

Hope Sawyer's feeling better.

Nice letter and pictures, and congrats to Hunter on the chess tournament. Hope Sawyer is feeling better. I heard about the ice that was in the lower south. Not fun. We're expecting more SNOW. We have one or two good days and then snow, snow, snow. Tired of it. It's been a rough month or so, and I'm ready for some spring. Snow is piled up here at New Pond although they've been moving it to their "snow farm" which is the middle area in the center of all of the buildings here.
