Safety on the Trail Home

I was walking the stroller and dogs around the circle in the neighborhood, and saw this nice formation of rocks. It was a couple of more days and several more times around before I ran into the owner, and could ask him what this was. His reply was that it was a cairn (sp?). He hikes in the White Mountains a lot, and at a certain level, above the tree lines, there are no trail markers, as there are no trees. These rocks are used for hikers to know where there is a trail. This is especially important when the fog rolls in, as hikers could easily hike off a cliff. Then he says, "That's all. It's nothing big, just some rocks." I said, "Of course these mean something! You enjoy hiking in the mountains, and have learned that these rocks provide you with safety on the trail, and help you return home." As I said these words, I thought about the temple. We're so fortunate to have a place we can go to learn how to be safe from the influence of the world. There is no better way to learn how best to return back home to our Heavenly Father than at the temple.

I knew what those rocks were! I knew! I knew! But I like where you went with that thought. I do always feel at home in the temple; no matter which one I'm in.

What a great analogy of the rocks and the temple. I think this would make a great story in a talk one day. In addition- the rocks are also an analogy of a firm foundation.
