Fruit Fly Favorites

Porter's science project was on which fruit would attract the most flies. Pear undeniably won, wings down.

There were 151 fifth graders that had to do this project. Twenty were given tropies for outstanding projects (Porter), and five were given place awards. Porter's thinking of using different colored construction paper to see if the color of the paper influences which jar (all with pear) the fruit fly is attracted to the most. Either way, I'm happy to know the best way to get rid of those pests when the summer months are here!

Alright, Porter! Samuel is in the middle of doing his science fair project. Any advice for a winning project? He is doing it on natural cleaners, such as vinegar, lemon, light.

Wow, I cannot believe how you look so grown up here Port. I love the way you put the yellow papers behind the papers shadowing each point on your board. Everything's typed and professional looking. (I need lessons!). How does one count 32 fruit flies in one trap?! :D

Great job Porter..truly a needed research in society!
My surefire plan (that works great actually)...take a plastic bowl a put an old piece of fruit in it, tightly stretch saran wrap over the top and poke a couple holes with a fork. You'd be amazed at how many little pests you get!
