Yesterday Sawyer was driving in the car with me and Mom, and out of the blue asked, "Mom, how do you learn to read?" We had a discussion which ended with my mother saying, "Sawyer, when we get home, I'll help you learn to read.
He remembered at bedtime, which all little boys would do, and brought out his new Dick and Jane book from the Toothfairy. He was reading to page 38 until we could finally tuck the book under his pillow, and call it a night.

This morning he awoke with a vengeance and continued reading to anyone who would bend an ear his way.
Go, Sawyer, go! Thanks Mom!

How wonderful that he wants to learn how to read!! The Dick and Jane books were the first ones we had in school when we learned to read. Glad they are still around. Tell Sawyer I am proud of him. Reading is wonderful, and I love having several books to poke my nose into at night or any time I have some free time.
You go boy!!! Reading is the best trick to learn, then you can learn anything you want to by reading books! And your grandma is a great teacher.
Guess he was ready to read! Kids are funny that way. They do things and do them all the way when they are ready. Take "pottie training"...I worked and worked with Kylie way back when but she just wouldn't cooperate. Then one day she hopped up on the pottie and did it on her own and has never had an accident! I tried putting a diaper on her that night and she insisted that she wouldn't have and accident. So I finally gave in...confident that she would wake up wet and then I would tell her "told you so"....but she was the one telling me that! She woke up dry...
Hey! That's great! That woman has always been the strongest advocate for teaching young children to read that I know. Where'd you find a Dick and Jane primer?
And again I will ask can I have her next! I guess that we will get our turn in July...until then.
Sawyer has the best Toothfairy in town! S/he finds the most wonderful books! Hmmm when I lost my tooth, the Toothfairy forgot to bring me a book, so Santa stepped in and brought me a Scrabble dictionary... maybe Sawyer will be beat me at our next Scrabble game?! Keep reading Sawyer!!!
We love and miss you, Sis Bach :)
Great Job Sawyer!
