My friend Ann sent me pictures of these birds in her neighborhood. It got me to thinking about all the yummy dishes associated with Thanksgiving, and the many ways to enjoy this bird, runner-up choice for our national bird. Butternut squash, turnip, pearled onions are some of my favorite side dishes. Marinating the bird in citrus and garlic was a delicious and different way to enjoy this king of poultry. What are your favorite Thanksgiving dishes? I need to know before I head to the store!Wednesday, November 19, 2008
Such a Beautiful, Yummy Bird!

creamed onions - can't forget about those! LOVE 'EM!! Wish we were spending T-day with YOU!
um, when I look at these birds in my yard...i'm not so sure I want to eat them.
But with a little gravy, I change my mind.
My favorite, rolls!
mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes.
(and all that PIE!)
I love all turkeys, you bake 'em, I eat 'em! Ive never made one myself yet, I should get on that. My co workers were just talking about deep fried turkey, it sounds delicious! And its done in less than an hour, and is super moist. We just might try that this year. But I ALWAYS have to have my green bean casserole, I love Love LOVE it! I too wish I could spend it with you! With everyone!
With Deep Fried Turkey it is extremely important to make sure that the bird is COMPLETELY thawed out. If not it will splatter hot oil all over your hause and possibly burn it down in the process.
My favorite dish is my dad's homemade cranberry sauce... oh, and the pies.
Every year I buy a couple of Turkey breasts and throw them on the smoker, they are yummy sandwiches later on.
This is not from cubsctann but imagine who it might be from:
Tom Turkey says: he’s sure the pilgrims ate rabbit that 1st Thanksgiving and suggest for the sake of he and his family, all Americans should follow that same tradition.
Peter Rabbit says: Don’t believe Tom Turkey! The pilgrims ate turkey and Loved it!
Bambi says: Listen to Peter Rabbit… that dear stew is terrible... Have you seen my Daddy?
Beautiful Turkey Picture! Becky, we can fit you in our car and bring you with us! Besides the camaraderie, one of my fave’s is Jeanette’s - green bean casserole w/crispy French fried onions on top! I was so tempted to pick up a bag of those ffo's at Sam's Club today! Bro B's fave is EVERYthing but he'll eat Cranberry Sauce right out of the can if you let him! LOLO He loves stuffing tooo....
I love everything that goes with turkey--stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, squash, onions--Nana used to make the creamed onions. Love cranberry sauce, and the best thing is the wonderful turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sandwiches after all is said and done. Yum!
I had to be scrooge here (how do you spell that)...but I'm not much for the whole "Thanksgiving" traditional meal...I think one time my Grabber (grandmother) made a Gumbo! I miss her gumbo:-(
Thanksgiving essential-
Amy Jo's Cornbread Stuffing and fresh rolls
I also enjoy the rolls with gravy and top (No gravy on the cornbread)
I am also happy with cranberry sauce cooked from fresh crandberries
