Words for the Wingmen

Dear Family,

I was so happy to gather and groove with many of you at Greg and Michaela’s wedding. It was a beautiful venue, and, perhaps that’s why, as some of us sat in the garden eating hors d’oeuvres, it seemed half like a scene from Narnia and half a vision of kingdoms yet to come. And WHAT a dance party.

The wedding season was made doubly sweet by a visit from my Mom. She came in, late on Wednesday, to a Utah she hadn’t seen for my lifetime. Between wedding activities, we visited a couple of spots around town, like the MOA and her old condo, but mostly it was sweet to sit together at home and talk. Hopefully, with the freedom that being back in school can bring, we’ll manage to plan more get togethers more often.

Last week, AnneMarie and I had a double date night kind-of-week. We hit up Pioneer Book on Friday, who was running a special on books, and perused the shelves for some good Winter reading material. Saturday, we went bowling, sans-Nora, and I got SMOKED. Sometimes I bowl better than other times, but no one is as consistently good as AnneMarie. I bowled the highest score I’ve ever gotten when we were dating, but since then she’s taken me to the cleaners more times than not! Afterwards, we tried a new ice cream place (Sweet Cream) in Provo that only does soft serve. We chose salted caramel with oatmeal chocolate chip cookie dough mixed in. We were not disappointed.

We recently caught the Netflix movie version of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society—highly recommend! We also grabbed Indian food in Provo for Jessica’s birthday and poor Nora spent most of the night literally looking over her shoulder for the owner who had a large beard and turban. By the end of the night, she was less afraid, but also yelled baby-language rebukes at him whenever he walked too close to her high chair. Luckily, he was a good sport and we had a good laugh over her antics.

This weekend was much needed. We have beautiful fall weather, General Conference, and a week off of school ahead. We are taking lots of walks, eating lots of pumpkin pancakes (run, don’t walk, to Trader Joes!), and life is good.

Nora is standing on her own and this week tried to take her first step. Not quite there, but she has great balance that lets her do some Matrix-style recoveries when she starts to fall. And all that standing lands her with a ravenous appetite. She also talks and talks and talks. So far she’s speaking her own language, but I imagine we're not far from words either given how much she likes to read books.

We love you. We miss you!
