So, we began teaching a man called Tiago and his mom. Being honest, more his mom than him. I always felt that he may have had more interest in my companion than in what we were teaching. Anyways, Friday night, we're on our way to the chapel to meet with the bishop and talking with everyone on the streets. Well, there comes an hour when there is only one other person in the streets. That fine pair of gams strutting their stuff in front of us. We, two fairly tall young gents, come up quickly behind the two can-cans when my companion says to me, "Hold up, I think that that is not a woman, I think that that is a man." (And yes, he actually did say that in English because of our companionship goals.) And I say, wouldn't that be funny if it were Tiago, hahaha Only when we get closer, he-she turns her-his head a little and we catch a glimpse of that large curved nose with the bull ring that we but recognized and know only too well.
Then, while we are making visits with the bishop, who has a #car, he asks us, "So where are some of you investigators." And my companion points to the shining trotter sticking out from under that short black mini-dress on the side of the road, "Well Bishop, there's one right there." Get's me every time
The other eventful event of our week came in just as spectacular form, if not more. We are in the market, grabbing a nice tonic water to soothe the ole pipes, when we hear an argument break out by the register. When we walk to the front, not thinking much of it, we are mildly shocked to discover three large, gun yielding men (#WelcomeToMyFavela) with motorcycle helmets. What a look of eye-opening shock must have crossed our faces. I clenched the tonic water a little tighter.
Then, in an act of email-worthy news, one of the helmeted men, rifling through the cash register with the three cell phones of the workers in his hands, looks at us, waves the pistoled hand, and says, "Hey elders, how's it going?" So we waved back, the tonic water is almost exploding in my hand at this point, and they run out, hop on the motorcycles and take off. And we paid for our stuff and left, end of story.
And the most exciting news, the news I wait for every year, twice a year, was suspensefully launched in the last talk of the last session of general conference. 12 new temples. #AnotherOne in Brazil, Salvador-Bahia, and a very exciting one in Praia, Cabo Verde. Glad to be a part of the Lord's work and for the opportunities that I have to witness and be a part of His growth in a world everyday needing it more.
"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."
Onward ever onward.
Love,
Elder Rockette

P.S. Thanks Dad, for the advice and thoughts. Exciting to hear about your adventures and adventures-to-come. My President called me on Friday, out of no where, and asked me a couple of questions, without giving me context, and then asked me to pass his commentaries on to you.
One of the things Pres. Marsh was really not liking in the mission is the whole dad, son terms being used in the mission. He asked one of the assistants about this and the assistant said that everyone uses it. The President asked him, "There isn't one missionary in the mission who doesn't use these terms?" And the assistant was like, "Well everyone except Elder Schenewark." So he asked me to thank you for that part and told me to tell you that you are large in wisdom. So, thanks dad, you are indeed large in wisdom. Love you.
P.P.S. The temple is on the other side of Brasil, but everyone is excited. I really like Holland's talk , but my favorite was Nelson's about the name of the church. Just a thought. At least two temples were announced on every continent except Europe, which I thought was interesting, but definitely follows the theme the progressing work that Nelson is bringing.
