The Knife Before Halloween

We opted to have a really big family pumpkin this year, instead of lots of little pumpkins

Breyer is excited about the big orange thing in the kitchen!

Miller got first picks and carved the mouth

Cooper cut the hat of the pumpkin

Sawyer carved eyeballs

I'm interrupting this pumpkin program to share my beautiful leaf!

Happy Halloween!

Shoeless Porter

"Mom, can you come back and bring my shoes to school?"
Why? What shoes did you wear today?"
I forgot my shoes.
Really?
(That's what happens when you run out the door everyday with your socks and shoes in hand!)

Learning on the Course...to stay on course

Golf is one of the few individual sports left in schools, which are important as they allow an individual to develop a life skill, a sport they can continue without needing a team to compete. Golf is also one of the few sports where integrity plays an important role in the outcome of the match. There are no umps or refs like other sports to keep score or sign the score card. Fairland High School (Proctorville, Ohio) Golf Coach Brian Ward emphasizes the importance of not falsifying strokes for a lower score. Instead, working harder to become your best is what’s truly important. You’ll always know how well you competed, and you’ll be able to hold your head high. The Fairland High School Golf team was competing in the Ohio Valley Conference 2011 High School Golf Championship. Groups of four boys were grouped together, each from a different school. Three of the boys were keeping score. When Fairland golfer Hunter finished a hole, the three scorers had marked his shots at four, but Hunter asked them to change it to five, as he knew five was correct. Hunter’s display of integrity, in his small, quiet way, demonstrates true sportsmanship. There were no crowds to know, no championship hanging in the balance, but four boys who knew Hunter chose the better way.

Neighbors From Heaven

The camping/fishing trip began with this - a face of pure happiness!
Our neighbors-from-heaven brought over the boys their own fishing boxes...five!

This neighbor received a birthday basket of fruit, accidentally delivered to our door. Miller was a little sad it wasn't for him. Guess who delivered it back to Miller? Our neighbors-from-heaven.
You can't have them.
They're MINE!

Hocking Hills

Jarrod took the boys to a state park called Hocking Hills, near Athens, Ohio.

Although they tried to fish, they weren't biting. I think they were too busy admiring the leaves!

Hamburgers, hotdogs, smores...the usual camping fare were on the menus.

Miller cooking his bacon on a stick...

Quite proud he can cook more than a marshmallow and a hot dog!

Jarrod's camping and fishing buddy from Massachusetts, who now lives in Ohio!
Rick with his two boys Danny and Sammy

The boys came home loving their time with Sammy and Danny!

Looking at those sweatshirts makes you think we've lived a few places!

Rocks, caves, bridges, waterfalls...boy heaven!

There were a LOT of people there to enjoy the day as well!

Cooper catching a mouthful!

Skipping a few rocks...

Miller with a mouthful!

What a glorious time!
