Memorial Day by Sawyer

Memorial Day began as a way to bring back to together those in the country who had lost family members in the Civil War.
It's a time to remember those Americans who sacrificed their lives during times of war.

Sawyer has captured this day, worth 1000 of my words, with his pictures.

George Washington was the first president of the United States.

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States.

The president lives inn the White House.
The flag flies on the roof when the president is there.

Uncle Sam is a man who stands for the United States of America.

The liberty bell is a symbol of freedom. It cracked the first time it was rung.

The statue of liberty welcomes one and all. "Lady Liberty" is a symbol of hope and freedom for people coming to the United States of America.

The bald eagle is the national symbol of the United States of America.

The United States of America has a red, white, and blue flag.
Happy Memorial Day to all.

Those are some awesome illustrations--my favorite is the one of Abraham Lincoln, where his eyes are hidden by his eyebrows!
