The Public Library

I love libraries! I have such fond memories of library smells, discovering Nancy Drew books and signing up for summer reading programs.

Becky's library is gorgeous - one year old, clean, and full of new, great smelling books!

They have a beautiful craft room, friendly workers and lots of toys.

We're signed up, we've scheduled all their exciting events, and we've been everyday to check in. Do you love your library as much as I do?

Keeping the Sabbath Day Wonderful!

I know we're suppose to keep the Sabbath Day holy, but can it also be wonderful? I had dear friends who live two hours away show up for my morning church services to surprise us! What a great way to lift up hands that are hanging.

Having my boys play paper aiplanes with Uncle Steve. Even though the rules are tough, and you have to keep refolding the same paper, it is a great competition! Of course he won, but suffer the little children to come to him.
Playing Uncle Steve's LEGO game. These are the mailboxes they had 3 minutes to build, other competitions included his shed, and a swing set.
And then there were more visitors! Mom and Dad were speaking in Maine, and drove two hours out of their way to visit Becky. In the midst of her affliction, she was comforted.

Dad was obviously a little tired. We never guessed one of his granddaughters would be brave enough to fix his hair while he was sleeping. Thank you all for your tender mercies!

Lake Waukewan

There are many lakes up where Becky lives, and they all have really big names.
This lake came with cute, little islands you can visit.
Obviously we had access to canoes and kayaks, and a floating dock!

Miller never went in the water, but spent his whole day riding in the canoe with anyone that wanted to take him for a ride.

Cooper and Sawyer became quite adept with the paddles!

If this is your kind of lake experience, come visit us in New Hampshire!

Lake Winnipesaukee

This is a nother one of those lakes in New Hampshire with the really long names! (This is not a post card - this is the view today, oh, about 12:30 p.m. )

I can't say I've had a lot of lake experience...here and there, all a really long time ago.

I must say Miller fit right in.

The water is COLD! Yet the kiddies still swim?

The sunshine is beautiful, the wind very mild.

The houses along the shore are so beautiful!

I could get use to living here!

Leaving is always hard! But we'll be back - would anyone like to enjoy this summer treat with us while we're here?

Gifts for Becky

There have been many gifts given to Becky while she's been in the hospital. Lots of flowers, thank you!

Sometimes funny things like this, that put a smile on your face. You know she'll love them later. Thanks, really.

There have been meals delivered to us at home, and treats to Becky, thank you again.

One of her favorite treats was a visit by her Ben, freshly bathed. It was the highlight of her long stay. Until last night.

This came in the mail. By her. I once read she thought she couldn't do portraits. I would have to disagree. It's beautiful, perfect, and just what the doctor ordered.

Shaker Village

There is a Shaker Village down the road from Becky's house, and I found out no one had been to visit.

There is a steep admission for the tour of the village, on the right side of the road.

Or, you can stay on the left side of the road and view a 20 minute movie, which shows you everything on the right side of the road that costs money, as well as visit the museum and shop.

We opted to stay on the left side of the road. Did you know the Shakers were called such as their dancing was very vigorous?

They also chose to live celibate lives, as brothers and sisters.
Hands to Work, Heart to God.
They attracted a lot of intelligent people and were known for inventing the clothes pin and waterproof fabric, and were in high demand for their seed packets.
Working hard, living simple, and promoting harmony were key to their happiness. Their religion was founded by a woman during the religious upheaval in New York in the 1800's.

This picture is for their Mom. They're enjoying a squash roll, a Shaker recipe special.

And we made sure we had one to share with her!

Master Gardener

I stand in awe of my mother's garden. It's designed with perfection, spaced just right, and growing enough food to feed a small army. Did I know about the required gardening headgear if it's raining? No. Now I know the Walmart bag makes all the difference.

And rule number two, don't let the kids inside the fence. Keep them on the outside, picking peas so delicious Sawyer ate far more than his share.

Happy Father's Day!

I never thought I would be with my father on Father's Day!

Since Becky is in the hospital,
we came down to Massachusetts for a rest.

As you can see their home is full of light -
just what the doctor ordered ;-)

And since my boys can't be with their Dad on Father's Day
or his birthday, their Grandpa is the best substitute!

Covering Up from Mosquitoes

When we walk around the block, after dinner, Miller has to be wrapped up or he's fresh meat for all the mosquitoes. If he stays covered, he's pretty safe. If I stop and gaze at something along the way, they dive bomb him. Eventually, he gets a little toasty, and wants to uncover a little. He's safe, as long as I keep moving. One time I was gazing, and pulled his stroller along backwards. They were all over him. As long as I kept moving forward with the air moving over him the mosquitoes stayed away. Isn't this so true with life? As long as we keep on the straight and narrow path, we're relatively safe from Satan. If we stop to gaze at the world, or turn backwards to look back, we're open to those bites. The gospel clothes us with safety, but if we choose to uncover, and slow or stop our progression, we'll be miserable!

Gardening 101

We're trying to help the Ortons get their garden growing. We've got everything planted, and are now starting to see sprouts and lots of weeds!

As we were replanting flowers from Mom, we found lots of rocks. We didn't know they were there to hold up the edge of the driveway. Another mistake. We made them a Cairn instead.

My brother Rich did a little experiment last year in his garden that should be shared. He filled his empty milk jugs with water and placed them around his garden. His theory is that the jugs will retain radiant heat, and when things cool down at night, the jugs provide extra heat to the plant. The watermelon plant with jugs produced 15 melons. The one without jugs? One. This one jug is a small start, but we'll have plenty more to fill.

Lots of Mistakes!

I've made a few mistakes since I've been here. I'm okay with that, I want to be sure and emphasize I AM NOT PERFECT! But, sometimes I wonder why I do such silly things! For instance, when you suction Ben, you have to cover up a hole in the tubing, or there is no suction! I can't tell you how many times I stick the tube in his mouth, swishy, swishy, and put it away, and wonder why he's still choking. And the feeding bag? There's a clamp on the tubing. It's there so you can clamp off the flow while you're hooking it onto Ben. If you don't use the clamp, you have to change the bedding. After traveling half way across country, I decided the cars needed to be vacuumed.

Why just stop with one, when there are three others to do? As I was vacuuming Ben's new handicapt van, I asked Miller to push the button to open the other side door. It was getting a little stuffy inside. Then I asked him to push the button to let the ramp down. Ooops. Next time remember to look what's on the other side of the ramp: Uncle Steve's other van. Steve, I'm really sorry about that little scratch.

We decide to grill some hamburgers. If those sound good to Becky, I'm all about firing up the grill. She gave me the verbal instructions, and I had about twelve patties down. The next thing I know there's massive fire shooting out the back of the grill. Did I think to move the grill away from the side of the house? No. Again, Uncle Steve, I'm so sorry about the scorched and melted siding. Do you still want my help?

New Toys!

The boys found Kaleb's ju jitsu bag while he was in school.
Need I say more?

They came down with many different kinds of weapons and protective gear.

I think they were trying to impress me with more
"armed and dangerous" stuff.

But this one impressed me the most!
How he got down the stairs without falling I'll never know.
