Your Christmas letter arrived. We read it for Family Home Evening Monday. Hunter was still here, and took TanMarie's letter to Utah. It was wonderful. Your comment about her playing basketball scared her a bit. She's expressed verbal disinterest so for Christmas one of her presents was a gymnastics class, wrapped in certificate form with a leotard and tights. She begins next Wednesday, and is very excited.
Poor Hunter. He's been very sick while on vacation. He started feeling ill Monday, with a sore throat and aches, and by Tuesday it was confirmed he had strep, plus something else. He threw up all day, probably from the cousin virus that attached to him in Tyler. He was bemoaning the fact that he was sick on his vacation, and I told him at least he got sick while he was at home with Mom care, doctor care and medicine. He readily agreed. He was sick the ENTIRE week. He shivered and shook his way through the week until Friday morning. He has a hard time talking because it uses his lungs, and he doesn’t want to cough. He also has a hard time sleeping. Your father had the missionaries assist in giving him a blessing Friday evening, and then he received a father’s blessing before going to the airport Saturday morning. He was admonished to have patience, so that should work out just fine with your plans on being a part of future important events. When he felt up to being social, we played a few games. We taught him Golf, which he liked. He taught us Code Name, a game you can buy but play yourself using Apple to Apples cards. We were planning on taking the whole family to the temple Friday, and staying in a hotel for the airport trip in the morning, but obviously we are kind enough to keep our flu germs home.
The weather was frigid from last Sunday through Wednesday. High of 18 degrees, balmy compared to New England's zero and northern states negative temperatures. So, so cold. So glad for a warm house and a fireplace, and lots of blankets at night, cars that warm in the morning. Over the weekend a bomb cyclone hovered over New England. In lay man terms it's when a front moves in with rapidly dropping pressure. This involved moisture that collided with the frigid temperatures, and created a lot of snow and a lot of wind.
I spent the weekend putting our house back in order. Cooper helped in the garage. Of course he might have put up a white board with a Go Pro lens, in case he wants to YouTube his creations. He punched out holes to hang tools, and basically set up a work station so when the garage was picked up, he’d have a place to put everything. Sawyer assisted in filling up the bench, and cleaning the garage. I got the Christmas boxes all packed and put back in the closet, washed the double stuffed brown chair, and moved it to the kids’ room where the blue trunk sat. I packed up the baby toys and put them in the closet as well. Maybe we can do a little video so you’ll feel at home when you come home.
I’m done with training at work. Yeah. So effective the end of this month, I will be put on a permanent schedule. As I’m currently working Sundays, I wrote a memo, pushing the enter button knowing I would be causing a few waves. No one wants to work Sundays. I was asked to come back and agreed with two conditions: Not having to work 12 hour shifts, and no day shift on the weekends. Unfortunately, those who agreed to these stipulations aren’t the ones I work with on a daily basis. We’ll see. I know I’m a valuable commodity, and they’re so short staffed as it is, but usually seniority dictates which shift you get. Being able to work 12 out of the 14 shifts might not be good enough. But on their shift computer entry system, there are 0600-1400, 0600-1600, and 0600-1800 every day of the week. I am requesting to work a split shift, 0600-1600 Mon-Tues and Thu-Fri, giving up three days off in a row, to have Sundays off. Imagine their surprise when the only split shift listed on their system was exactly what I requested. I wasn’t. I hope to chalk this up to a mission blessing. Being able to work the days that are needed in an unusual shift configuration, with Sundays off? Perfect.
I will be putting together a birthday box for you shortly. Anything you might enjoy or miss? Did you like the Christmas card? Tanner did a great job photo shopping the picture for me.
We’re gearing up for Christmas vacation to be over. The kids start school on Tuesday. Practices, games, gymnastics, scouts, piano, piano lessons, seminary – reality kicks in full swing. Hopefully we’re all healthy and in full swing mode as well.
Last week’s letter was wonderful. Loved your stories. Loved your analogy. Please be careful!
Sis. Kimball said, Never suppress a generous thought. I love the idea of being generous more often. I wish my thought was more, but this week it's simple.
Love,
Mom
