I think it most appropriate, while reflecting on Mother's Day, that the first miracle performed by Christ was for His mother, making the wine. And, the last thing Christ took care of before he died, was ensuring his mother would be cared for by John. That women, especially in the role of motherhood, were exemplified by Christ as being this important, and loved, cherished and worthy, makes me value my role as a mother so much more. Happy Mother's Day to me. Thank you both for your phone calls!
Your father surprised me this morning with a dozen doughnuts away in a high cupboard last night for breakfast this morning. He knows I need doughnuts. Often. New England'ers such as myself, where a doughnut shop can be found on every corner, need doughnuts. They balance the DNA. And hormones. And he remembered I like the cake doughnuts so much more than the fluff. Then after a late lunch, Porter's homemade version of JD dogs, which were yummy, he gave me two boxes of chocolates. We had a chocolate fest / feast. Breyer is just like me ;-)
Breyer hopped out of bed this morning and came running to wish me a Happy Mother's Day, with as much enthusiasm as a Christmas morning. Such a gem. She does love me, and proceeded to stuff all my envelopes from my thank-you card pile, with her scribbled love notes.
We had a disappointing set back for Miller and Sawyer. After finding out they both had made the "A" all star team, they were removed once the president of the league, also Miller's coach, found out the boys didn't want to play in Sunday games. The schedule here, versus Ohio, which used Thursday and Friday evenings, uses Sundays heavily. Oh well. They won't be any the worse for wear. We'll even go and cheer on their teams at a few of their games, and maybe play in the fall league.
Aunt Shirley was gracious enough to share pictures of you, Hunter, attending your cousin's farewell today. Seeing the family together always makes me happy. Such a great way to spend a Sunday!
Dad spent yesterday and today at Tarleton's graduation. He did a lot of traveling during all the storms we've been having in Texas. We were up all last night with our weather alert radio beeping, tornado warnings, flash flood alerts, severe thunderstorm updates...all the scary stuff you don't want to think about in the middle of the night.
Just off the press, Porter told me he was selected to represent Granbury High School at Texas Boys' State this summer, with three other boys. And the local VFW is covering all their costs. What a great opportunity. So glad he was nominated by his favorite teacher ;-)
That's about it for the weekly update. Be true, remain loyal, and call me!
Love,
Mom
