Love the Locals!

I love my grocery store! The managers mark down food with expiring 'sell by' dates with these yellow/orange stickers. This is a box of spring mix lettuce usually $3.99.

This is pepperoni. I was paying $2 in Texas, so $3.99 was hard to swallow. I'm glad it freezes well because we LOVE homemade pizza.

This is a nice, hearty wheat bread. I've found out where and what the products are that get marked down. The organic dairy section is my favorite, especially the eggs and cheese. Don't get the milk - it's already spoiled! Sometimes I'll see what I can find before I make a menu. Combined with their weekly specials, my bill's not too bad.

Sawyer loves going in after holidays as balloons are given away to kids. Yesterday, in Sawyer's words, "I worked really hard putting the groceries into the bags so the man told me to pick out a balloon." He picked out the largest, of course. The rest of the story? Sawyer pulled a bag of flour off the bottom of the grocery cart and it ripped. The man was too busy sweeping five pounds of flour from the flour to bag the groceries. And when this man still winks at Mom, you know you'll keep going back. What's your favorite local business you like to support?

Jay always looks at the organic POM juice. It's a real treasure when he finds it marked down. It seems that no one buys it until it is marked down to a reasonable price.

hmmm...i don't really have a local store - they are a rare find now a days. i do however always check the organic produce for awesome markdowns. glad you find such great deals - i'm sure that the food gets eaten before it has a chance to go bad with 6 boys in your home. ;)

At Lambert's in Westwood, they have a rack for "fast sale". These could be a grouping of vegetables or a bag of peppers, bananas, apples. One day I purchased a bag of red peppers for $1.99 and made stuffed peppers for a pot luck at church, as well as having enough for home. The most expensive item was the hamburg. One of the boys who works there told me they put these out at 9 in the morning. I'm not there often, but I do check that rack out when I am in the store. One day got potatoes along with other items. Great deal. Good for you for finding a way to eat a bit inexpensively but healthy.

I agree, it's always great to get a deal. We try to do the same. The store is right down our street, so no matter if we need just one item, usually milk, we always look at the quick sale rack. It can be quite exciting!

I have always enjoyed going to our Post Office where they give the kids lollipops and address us by name. Of course, there is always Braums. They have good mark downs at times, but best of all the many of the employees know us and greet us with a smile. It just makes us feel special! Wow, what a balloon. I see the ping-pong table in the back, Has Hunter been practicing?

There are advantages to living in Proctorville...or ROme.
I love the Balloon. Good job, Sawyer. Nice man to wink and smile while cleaning up a mess. Did you get a different bag or just tape it up?
