Letter #snailmail

July 22, 2013

I have a new companion now who does not mind staying at home on preparation day and it is nice. My old companion was incredible, however I've learned a veritable lifetime in the last several weeks and with the recent call to be a district leader and a trainer, there's been no time or not much, to ponder on it at all! The mission keeps you busy, physicall, mentally and emotionally.

I had the sweet experience of confirming one of our recent baptisms Sunday. i had felt like I should do the confirmation the night before, something generally left to the Bishopric. The impression came again the next morning and if the Bishopric hadn't asked me to do it I would have asked. For some reason, some part of God's marvelous plan, it was important that I had part in this ordinance.

One of my favorite things to do here in the mission, even though we're not really called to do it, is teach gospel principles. I really love teaching, even unprepared, and now in another language. I think that like my Uncle Zach and my Dad there's a good chance I'll follow their steps as professors one day. Last Sunday the stake president sat in on gospel principles and it was a wonderful class about the Holy Ghost.

Speaking of the Holy Ghost, it seems like everyday I come to understand a little more his absolutely vital role in our lives, especially as members of the church entrusted iwth a sacred responsibility. We have the responsibility of letting him work within us, so that we can perform God's will.

Today I feel full. Full of mission spirit even though I hurt physically. Full of the love even though it has been a rejecting week. Full of wisom, more than I can take in at one time from the scriptures, and full of hope and excitement for what will come at six o'clock when I lay down this pen and go back to work in the Lord's vineyard.

I'm not even halfway done, but I feel so thankful for the mission and for life as a training ground to follow my lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And even though I've got seven more time to go, I'm excited to join you soon in working to build the kingdom of God at home.

Love you all so much,

Tanner
