Pinewood Derby!

Cooper was inspired by Cars Finn McMissile...

...which made last year's Lightening McQueen's owner, Miller, very happy!

Miller wanted a superhero, of course, and chose Superman...

...and got the stretchy pants and badge of honor on the underneath side.

Sawyer wanted The Man in the Yellow Hat this year, to go with last year's Curious George.

Porter raced his dolphin car in the open division.

Breyer ate a piece of pizza, and promptly napped the entire race!
Such a good girl ;-)

The best seat in the house - at the end of the track!

Cooper placed First in the Webelos Pack...

Sawyer placed Second in the Wolf Pack and received the medal for
Best Paint Job

Derby races are THE BEST!

Mission Call Moment

Dear Elder Schenewark,
You are hereby called to serve in the...

Brazil Londrina Mission, speaking Portuguese, leaving August 1st!
They have no idea how lucky they are!!!

" I must say, addressing all and any future missionaries that may read this, that the only feeling that you have when you open your mission call is pure and utter shock. It doesn't matter where you are assigned, or what language you are speaking. It's shock pure and simple. I announced my call tonight at ward prayer and 5 seconds before it was my turn couldn't remember what my mission was! I just kept thinking, "Its in Brazil, its in Brazil...". Luckily it came to me in the nick of time. Perhaps though that's the magical thing about serving a mission. While each will bring different challenges, different experiences, a mission produces the same result when we consecrate ourselves to the work of the Lord.

I felt the beginning of a change when I opened the envelope. I feel more focused. I'm not sure how to explain it, but that's probably because I'm still in shock. All I know now is, that for the next two years I have the everlasting joy to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Brazil. I know that my Savior lives; he guides me through life, ever-patient when I insist on walking zig-zag the straight and narrow path. We are the children of the most high God, who lovingly waits for us to return to Him. I glory in the blessed gift of the Gospel, for it brings me peace and joy.

Brazil here I come..."

Sawyer's Talk

My talk today is on being a disciple of Jesus Christ. This means to follow and do what Jesus did. I can do this even when it's hard. Sometimes I have to miss birthday parties. A lot of times I have to miss my basketball and baseball games. I know I am being blessed for being obedient and keeping the Sabbath day holy, just as Jesus did. Sometimes our actions are noticed by others. My basketball all-star team knew I wouldn't play in Sunday games so they took another player on the team for when I couldn't play. When we act like Jesus did we are following in His way and we can be called His disciple. I know this blesses me because trying to be a disciple of Jesus helps me to be better.

(It's all good on paper, but sometimes a little reinforcement is necessary ;-)
Being reverent on the couch because it didn't happen in church.

Owensboro, Kentucky

Jarrod had an Optimist convention to attend in Owensboro, Kentucky.
Where?
Sawyer and Miller drew the lucky slots for the FIVE hour car drive, and found TEN reasons to travel and visit Owensboro, Kentucky!

10. The world's oldest (300 years) and largest (100 feet) Sassafras tree (natural ingredient for rootbeer - the boys' favorite!)

(Pointing out the lightening rod to help prevent lightening strikes)

9. Arrive a little late at the car rental and get a free SUV upgrade!

8. Local catfish fresh from the Kentucky waterways!

7. Hillbilly artifacts in abundance!

6. Swimming fun at the hotel before bedtime...

...and a bed to themselves, including the cartoon channel!

5. Moonlight Barbeque, the best in Kentucky!

4. The largest bourbon bucket in the world!

3. The home of one of the 22 burned Civil War courthouses, a drive-thru shoe hospital, home to a Confederate Congressional Medal of Honor awardee; and home of "Old Drum," made infamous in the "Tribute to a Dog" court case;

2. Home of T.D.'s Tuff Decisions, unique gift shop!

And the #1 reason to travel to Owensboro?
Lots of practice in "quiet boy" entertainment.
