What's For Dinner?

We visited a farm a while back, and the owner shared with us a frozen pound of goat meat. After listening to her talk about how delicious it was, and how nutritious it was because of her free range herd, I actually was excited to give it a try. I love buffalo, and have really enjoyed my deer all winter. I just didn't want to announce it in advance, if you know what I mean. Mature goat meat is called chevon, and younger meat is cabrito. I have no idea what it was, only that it was good! I ate some plain before I added taco seasonings. The boys inhaled dinner. The seasonings just made it taste like "normal" tacos. But when they found out they had just eaten goat meat, their jaws dropped like I had committed a cardinal sin. And when they tell their story it becomes weird instead of not leaving a crumb. It is the most widely consumed meat in the world, and is becoming a trendlet. It has less fat than chicken and more protein than beef. What's for dinner? Not goat! It's all gone.

there are many yummy meats that Americans turn their respected noses up at. IF you can trick them into trying it prior to full dis-closure they typically enjoy it. This is true with most foods, although seems exaggerated with meats.

Your life is interesting. Glad they all enjoyed the goat meat. Also read today in AARP that goat milk is excellent as well.

I had to chuckle when I read that you ate goat. I was looking in a Filipino food brochure today and to my surprise, they listed goat as a choice of meat for their dishes. Can't say I ever had it, but I would be willing to try.

I'm all for trying new meat. LOVE that you had that experience. Makes me want to raise a goat - for the milk/cheese and now meat.
