Quiz Bowl

Although Tanner's quiz bowl team is headed to nationals, they still had to finish up their regular season. They competed in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament.

Miller thoroughly enjoyed the competition...between his pinewood derby cars and the carpeted stairs.

Hunter was hoping to be put in, but not today. It was all about the seniors.

They handily won all their meets, handing them a first place finish.
Congratulations to the varsity and junior varsity quiz bowl teams on winning the OVAC season championships for the 2010-2011 school year. The varsity team finished with a perfect record of 7-0, while the junior varsity team finished with a record of 6-1. This is the second championship in three years for the varsity team. Off to regionals!

In the video, Tanner (third from the left) gives their "speaker" the answer, and then steals the win from the other team's question.

Go Boys!

Story by Sawyer

One morning I woke up and I was as tiny as an ant. I crawled down stairs to eat one Honey Nut Cheerio for breakfast. Then I got down from the table. Next I went to comb my hair for school but the brush was too big for me. So I found a quarter for a mirror and a pencil eraser for a comb. Then I went to school on Cooper's shoe. When I got there everything was gigantic even the doorknob and the folders. Then I went home. I got in bed and went to sleep. In the morning I was as big as a man again. I like his "one Honey Nut Cheerio for breakfast" the best!

A Busy Tooth Fairy

I wouldn't have known except I cleaned out his backpack!

And the funny thing is it happened three weeks in a row.
I'm thinking music class might be a tad boring!

Scouting Snippets

Comparing scout influence to inches on a yard stick wasn't as interesting as using them for back scratchers.

Cooper received his Webelos rank advancement.

Now we just have to work on that arrow of light!

But it's always a happy day when recognition is received.

Sawyer received his Tiger rank advancement.
They also were the only boys who were interested in the paper quiz, and were rewarded with a flash light and marshmallow gun shooter for their efforts!

Saint Patrick's Day Thoughts

My father's grandfather Evans is most likely Irish.
We know his family migrated to Canada, and that the Irish had a large population in his area.
Assuming his grandfather married an Irish gal, my father would be, at the most, 1/2 Irish.
Maybe the hair of the princess will be red?

Which means I could be 1/4 Irish.
Perhaps freckles will be dotting their complexions soon!

And this dark haired beauty, could be 1/8 Irish.
Do Irish folk have cleft chins?

Happy Saint Patrick's Day Banphrionsa, Gaelic for Princess!

Sawyer's Collection

What started as a joke became a family (some) project: Help Sawyer fill the jar for his toe nail collection.
Really?

Rain, Rain, Go Away! or Row, Row Your Boat!

We've had a little rain here.
This is our baseball field, fence, and dugout.
This is the dugout on the second day...

This is our pavillion...

This is on the third day...

This is all water from the Ohio River that came up over the riverbank.
I can't even imagine being able to have a baseball season now!

Cooper's Talk on Creations

I love to create things with my hands. I love creating with legos, as well as by drawing. My creations bring me joy, just as the creations of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ do. They created a wonderful world for me to enjoy. When I visit Massachusetts I love to go to Cape Cod and find crabs in the sand, climb on the rocks and swim in the ocean. When I visit New Hampshire, I love to canoe and kayak on the lakes, and explore islands. When I visit Texas I love to find bluebonnets growing in the fields. When I visit Florida I love to look for geckos, a small lizard, and alligators. In Vermont I love to climb mountains, go fishing, and look for crawdads. All over this world there are beautiful things created for us to enjoy. I'm grateful for the newest creation in our family, my sister Breyer. All day long I tell my mother how cute she is. I know I'll enjoy her more than crabs or flowers or alligators. Just as we want to take care of the earth and its creations so others can enjoy them, we need to take care of each other by showing love and compassion, and by doing service. These creations are all part of Heavenly Father's plan. I'm grateful for a loving Father in Heaven who knows that we need these creations and each other to be happy.

Sawyer's Birthday

Happy 8 years old Sawyer!

I spent time reading some favorite books to him at school, and hanging out with Sawyer at lunch.

His "SAWYER" poster has been on display all week.
We're so grateful for Sawyer and his sweet spirit he brings to our home!
